Orion: On the banks of Rubicon
16/01/13 || Averatu
Orion’s promo materials labels them as progressive death metal, and generally that ends up meaning ‘sounds like Opeth’, Although there are certainly moments here and there that might qualify, Orion lay emphasis on progression, moving things along. This not being a ground breaking EP, they do deliver some surprises. I especially enjoy the approach to guitar playing, as they incorporate a lot of very interesting slides. Here and there they also have an unusual way of constructing melodies, I can only assume some weird eastern scales have been deployed. Vocally this is a varied EP, the clean singing being by far the most interesting and overall pretty damned impressive.
The growing Indian metal scene is producing some decent acts, and this EP proves that Orion are definitely one to keep an eye on.
7/10: I need tee-pee for my bung hole.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
